Botox & Dysport Toronto

Smooth Expression Lines, Refresh Your Look, Keep It Natural

Botox and Dysport are injectable neuromodulators that temporarily relax targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines and refresh your appearance. Both are made with botulinum toxin type A and are widely used to smooth forehead lines, frown lines, crow's feet, bunny lines, chin dimpling, lip flip, gummy smile, masseter muscle bulk, neck bands, and excessive sweating. They can also help with TMJ-related clenching, teeth grinding, and chronic migraines.

At PearlMD Rejuvenation in Toronto, every treatment is physician-led and personalized to your facial anatomy, muscle strength, and aesthetic goals. The objective isn't to change your face — it's to help you look smoother, more rested, and unmistakably still you. What Are Botox & Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are injectable neuromodulators made from purified botulinum toxin type A. In aesthetic medicine, tiny, controlled doses are injected into specific muscles to temporarily reduce muscle activity. When the targeted muscle relaxes, the overlying skin appears smoother because the repeated movement that creates expression lines is softened.

Both treatments are widely used because they're quick, customizable, non-surgical, and require little to no social downtime for most people. They are among the most-studied aesthetic treatments in modern medicine and are also approved for several therapeutic uses including chronic migraines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and certain muscle disorders.

How They Work

Expression lines form when facial muscles repeatedly contract over time. Every time you frown, squint, smile, raise your eyebrows, purse your lips, or clench your jaw, the skin folds with the muscle movement. Over years, those repeated folds can become more visible even at rest.

Botox and Dysport work by temporarily interrupting the signal between the nerve and the targeted muscle. The muscle relaxes, movement softens, and the skin above appears smoother.

1. Facial Movement Assessment

Your injector observes how your muscles move when you frown, raise your brows, smile, squint, and relax. This determines exactly which muscles are creating your concern.

2. Customized Injection Mapping

Dose and placement are selected based on your specific anatomy — never a one-size-fits-all template. Botox or Dysport is chosen based on the area, your goals, and previous response.

3. Quick, Precise Injections

Tiny amounts are injected into targeted muscles with a fine needle. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick pinch. Treatments are usually completed in 15–30 minutes.

4. Gradual Softening & Natural Results

Movement begins softening over the next several days. By day 10–14, lines look smoother while expression remains natural. When properly placed, you look rested — not frozen.

Why two products, one philosophy

PearlMD offers both Botox and Dysport because no single product is right for every face. Botox is often preferred for precision in smaller, detailed areas. Dysport may be preferred for broader movement areas or when slightly faster onset is desirable. Having both at our disposal — alongside our broader facial aesthetics suite — means we can match the product to the patient, not the other way around.

Benefits

What Botox & Dysport Improve

Botox and Dysport are remarkable in how many concerns they address with a single, quick treatment — both cosmetically and therapeutically.

Cosmetic Benefits

  • Smooth horizontal forehead lines
  • Soften frown lines (the "11 lines" between the brows)
  • Reduce crow's feet around the eyes
  • Subtle non-surgical brow lift
  • Soften bunny lines on the nose
  • Reduce vertical lip lines and create a lip flip
  • Improve a gummy smile
  • Smooth chin dimpling and "orange peel" texture
  • Lift downturned mouth corners
  • Slim the jawline and reduce masseter muscle bulk
  • Soften vertical neck bands
  • Prevent expression lines from deepening over time

Therapeutic Benefits

  • Reduce TMJ-related jaw clenching and teeth grinding
  • Treat excessive underarm, palm, or forehead sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Reduce frequency and severity of chronic migraines
  • Alleviate muscle tension and certain types of headache
Treatment Areas

Areas Botox & Dysport Can Treat

Forehead Lines

Horizontal forehead lines form when you raise your eyebrows. Both Botox and Dysport relax the frontalis muscle to soften these lines. The key is balance: too much relaxation can make the brow feel heavy, while the right dose creates a smoother forehead that still moves naturally. Typical dose: 10–20 units of Botox.

Frown Lines / "11 Lines"

The vertical lines between the eyebrows can make you look tired, tense, or upset even when you're not. Frown lines are one of the most popular and well-studied treatment areas for both Botox and Dysport. Typical dose: 20–25 units of Botox.

Crow's Feet

The fine lines that appear around the outer corners of the eyes when you smile or squint. Botox and Dysport relax the orbicularis oculi muscles while preserving a natural, expressive smile. Typical dose: 12–24 units of Botox total.

Brow Lift (Non-Surgical)

Strategically placed neuromodulator can relax the muscles that pull the brows downward, creating a subtle lifted effect — especially around the outer brow. Popular for clients who want the eye area to look more open and rested.

Bunny Lines

Diagonal wrinkles on the sides of the nose that appear when you smile, laugh, or scrunch your nose. Small amounts of Botox or Dysport soften these lines while keeping expression natural.

Lip Flip

A few units placed at the upper lip relax the muscle that pulls the lip inward, allowing the upper lip to gently roll outward. This creates the appearance of a slightly fuller upper lip without adding volume — a great alternative or complement to lip filler.

Gummy Smile

When the upper lip lifts high enough to show excess gum tissue when smiling, neuromodulator can relax the muscles responsible, helping the smile look more balanced and harmonious.

Chin Dimpling ("Orange Peel" Chin)

The mentalis muscle can create a bumpy or pebbled chin texture when contracted. Botox or Dysport relaxes this muscle to smooth the chin area.

Downturned Mouth Corners

The depressor anguli oris muscles pull the corners of the mouth downward, creating a sad or stern resting expression. A small dose can soften this pull for a more neutral or subtly lifted look.

Masseter / Jaw Slimming

The masseter muscles power chewing and clenching. When they're overactive or naturally strong, the jaw can look wide or square. Botox or Dysport relaxes the masseters over weeks, softening the jawline contour while reducing clenching, grinding, and TMJ-related tension. Typical dose: 30–50 units per side.

Neck Bands (Platysmal Bands)

Vertical bands caused by the platysma muscle become more visible with age. Carefully placed neuromodulator softens these bands for a smoother neck and refined lower-face contour.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Botox and Dysport temporarily block the signals that activate sweat glands. Underarm hyperhidrosis treatment is one of the most reliable non-surgical options and typically lasts 6–12 months — significantly longer than cosmetic effects in facial muscles.

Side by Side

Botox vs Dysport

Both products produce excellent, natural-looking results. They differ in formulation, unit measurement, diffusion, and onset — and a skilled injector chooses the right product for the right area.

Is one better than the other?

Honestly, no. Botox and Dysport are both outstanding products with decades of safety and efficacy data behind them. The right choice depends on your treatment area, anatomy, muscle strength, previous response, and your injector's plan — and many of our clients use both, in different areas, in the same visit.

Can I switch between Botox and Dysport?

Yes. Many patients try both to see which gives them the preferred onset, look, and duration. Your injector will simply adjust the dose because the units aren't interchangeable. Switching is common and safe.

Beyond Aesthetics

Therapeutic Uses of Botox & Dysport

Botox and Dysport aren't only for cosmetic concerns. They're among the most evidence-supported treatments for several medical conditions related to muscle overactivity and overactive nerve signaling.

TMJ Disorder & Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

Masseter Botox or Dysport relaxes the powerful chewing muscles to reduce clenching, grinding, jaw tension, headaches, and enamel wear. Over time, the muscle bulk can also reduce, creating a slimmer, more tapered lower-face contour. This treatment is one of the most life-changing non-cosmetic uses we offer.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Botox is highly effective at reducing excessive sweating in the underarms, palms, soles, and forehead. By temporarily blocking the nerve signals to sweat glands, it can dramatically reduce sweat production for 6–12 months — far longer than its facial effect. Popular for clients whose sweating affects clothing, confidence, or daily comfort.

Chronic Migraines

For patients suffering from chronic migraines (15+ headache days per month), Botox is FDA-approved for prevention. It's typically administered in a specific protocol across the head and neck and can substantially reduce migraine frequency and severity for many patients.

Tension Headaches & Muscle Pain

Some clients experience significant relief from chronic tension headaches and certain types of muscle pain when neuromodulators are placed in trigger areas, particularly around the masseters, temporalis, and trapezius.

Candidacy

Who Is a Candidate?

Botox and Dysport are appropriate for a wide range of healthy adults who want to:

  • Soften forehead lines, frown lines, or crow's feet
  • Prevent expression lines from deepening (preventative Botox)
  • Slim a strong or square jawline
  • Reduce TMJ-related clenching, grinding, or jaw pain
  • Treat excessive underarm or palm sweating
  • Address chronic migraines
  • Refine a gummy smile or downturned mouth
  • Achieve a subtle non-surgical brow lift
  • Look more rested, less stressed, and refreshed

Botox and Dysport are equally suitable for women and men, and across a wide range of ages — from clients in their late 20s pursuing prevention to clients in their 60s and beyond maintaining results.

Safety

Who Should Avoid?

A consultation is required before treatment. You may need to avoid or delay Botox/Dysport if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have certain neuromuscular conditions (myasthenia gravis, ALS, Lambert-Eaton, etc.)
  • Have a known allergy to ingredients in the product
  • Have an active skin infection at or near the treatment site
  • Are currently taking certain medications that interact with neuromodulators
  • Have significant pre-existing weakness in the area to be treated
  • Recently had certain procedures or surgery in the treatment area

If you bruise easily or are on blood thinners, your injector will discuss precautions and may recommend timing adjustments. We screen carefully — your safety always comes first.

The PearlMD Experience

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your treatment is built around a careful, physician-directed sequence designed for safety, comfort, and natural-looking results.

01

Consultation & Movement Assessment

We review your goals, medical history, medications, and previous injectable history. You'll be asked to make several expressions — frown, raise your brows, smile, squint, clench your jaw — so your injector can map exactly which muscles are creating your concern.

02

Customized Treatment Plan

We choose Botox or Dysport (or both) based on your treatment areas, anatomy, muscle strength, desired result style, and previous response. We'll walk you through dosing, timing, and what natural-looking results will look like for your face.

03

Skin Preparation

The treatment area is gently cleansed. Topical numbing cream or ice is available on request, especially for sensitive areas like the lip flip or hyperhidrosis treatment.

04

Precise Injections

Small amounts of Botox or Dysport are injected into targeted muscles using a very fine needle. Most clients describe the sensation as quick pinches. The injection portion typically takes only a few minutes.

05

Aftercare Instructions

You'll receive clear written instructions covering the first 24 hours and beyond. Most clients return to work or normal activities the same day. We'll schedule a follow-up if needed and stay in touch as your results develop.

Results

Your Results Timeline

Botox and Dysport don't deliver instant results — they unfold over days as the neuromodulator settles into the targeted muscles.

Day 0 (Treatment Day)Tiny pinpoint marks or mild redness possible. Some clients see slight bumps that resolve within minutes to hours. You can return to most normal activities the same day.
Days 1–3You may not see much change yet. This is normal. The product is beginning to bind beneath the surface.
Days 3–7Movement begins softening. Dysport is often noticeable on the earlier side of this window; Botox often becomes apparent toward day 5–7.
Days 10–14Full result settles. Lines look smoother, movement is reduced, and the face appears more rested. This is when results should be assessed.
Weeks 2–12Maintenance phase — your treated areas remain smooth and refreshed.
Months 3–4Movement gradually returns as the product wears off. Maintenance treatments at this point keep results consistent year-round.
Planning for an Event?

Book at least 2 weeks before — 4 weeks if it's your first treatment

For weddings, photoshoots, vacations, or major events, plan ahead. Experienced clients: book at least 2–3 weeks before your event so results have settled. First-time clients: book 4–6 weeks ahead in case minor touch-ups are desired. Don't book the day before — results aren't yet visible and mild bruising is possible.

Result Style

Natural-Looking Results, Always

The "frozen" look isn't a Botox problem — it's a dosing and placement problem. With careful planning, conservative dosing where appropriate, and respect for your natural expression, both Botox and Dysport can leave you looking refreshed, smoother, and unmistakably still you.

What "Natural" Looks Like at PearlMD

  • Conservative dosing when appropriate — we'd rather start lighter and add than overcorrect
  • Careful facial movement assessment so we treat the right muscles, not every muscle
  • Customized injection mapping based on your anatomy
  • Respect for asymmetry — perfectly symmetrical faces look unnatural
  • Touch-ups planned only after results have settled at 14 days
  • Treatment goals defined as "rested and refreshed," not "completely smooth"

What Is "Baby Botox"?

Baby Botox (also called micro-Botox or mini-dose Botox) is a lighter, more conservative neuromodulator approach using smaller doses than traditional Botox. It's popular with clients who want very subtle softening, prevention, or a "barely there" result. It's not a different product — both Botox and Dysport can be administered in a baby-Botox style.

Baby Botox is ideal if you:

  • Are new to injectables and want to start subtle
  • Want to preserve very natural movement
  • Have early lines rather than deep wrinkles
  • Want preventative treatment in your late 20s or 30s
  • Prefer subtle softening over full smoothing

Botox & Dysport for Men ("Brotox")

Men commonly seek Botox and Dysport for frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet, jaw tension, masseter slimming, and hyperhidrosis. Male facial anatomy generally requires different dosing — stronger muscles, broader brows, and a need to preserve masculine structure. The goal is always to look less tired and stressed without changing what makes your face yours.

Trust & Expertise

Why Choose PearlMD?

The product is the easy part. Beautiful Botox and Dysport results come from anatomy, dose, placement, restraint, and artistic judgment — and that's where the right injector matters more than the brand on the bottle.

Physician-Led, Female-Focused

All treatments at PearlMD are directed by Dr. Jennifer Pearlman, a Toronto-based women's health physician with deep expertise in aesthetics, hormonal optimization, and longevity medicine. We treat the face within the broader context of how you feel, how you age, and what's happening in your body.

Both Products, Best Match

We offer both Botox and Dysport. That means your injector can match the right product to the right area — Botox for precision, Dysport for broader movement zones, or a thoughtful combination of both in the same visit.

Natural-Looking Always

Our reputation is built on results that look refreshed, rested, and balanced — not stiff or overdone. We start conservatively when appropriate and adjust over time. We'd rather invite you back for a small touch-up than overcorrect on the first visit.

Transparent Communication

You'll understand what we're treating, why, what to expect, and how to maintain your results — before the first injection. No pressure, no upselling, no surprise charges.

Part of a Bigger Plan

Botox and Dysport work beautifully alongside facial contouring with fillers, Sculptra, microneedling, non-surgical facelifts, and advanced skin treatments. We can build a complete plan or focus on one area — your call.

Frequently Asked

Botox & Dysport FAQ

Real answers to the questions we hear most — and the ones you've probably already typed into Google.

What is Botox?

+

Botox is a purified neurotoxin (botulinum toxin type A) injected in tiny doses to temporarily block nerve signals to targeted muscles. It softens dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expression — including forehead lines, frown lines, and crow's feet — and is also used for medical concerns such as TMJ-related clenching, chronic migraines, and excessive sweating.

What is Dysport?

+

Dysport is also a botulinum toxin type A neuromodulator. It works similarly to Botox — relaxing targeted muscles to soften expression lines — but it's dosed and measured differently and may begin acting slightly faster for some clients. Both Botox and Dysport can produce excellent, natural-looking results when administered by an experienced injector.

What's the difference between Botox and Dysport?

+

Both products are botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators that relax targeted muscles, but they're formulated differently. Dysport units aren't interchangeable with Botox units (~2.5–3 Dysport units ≈ 1 Botox unit), and Dysport may diffuse slightly more in tissue. Neither is universally better — the right choice depends on the area, your anatomy, and your goals.

Is Dysport better than Botox?

+

Dysport isn't automatically better than Botox. It can be excellent for broader movement areas like the forehead and may begin working slightly faster for some clients. Botox is often preferred for smaller, more precise areas. Both are exceptional products — the better question is which one suits your treatment area and goals.

How long does Botox or Dysport last?

+

Both Botox and Dysport typically last around 3–4 months for most clients. Duration varies by metabolism, muscle strength, dose, treatment area, exercise intensity, and consistency of maintenance. Some clients find their results last longer over time as treated muscles "learn" to contract less strongly.

How quickly do Botox and Dysport start working?

+

Dysport may begin showing results within 2–4 days for some clients. Botox typically begins working within 3–7 days. Full results for both usually settle around 10–14 days post-treatment. Don't judge final results before two weeks.

Does Botox or Dysport hurt?

+

Most clients describe injections as a quick pinch. The needles are very fine, and the treatment is fast — usually under 15 minutes for the injection portion. Topical numbing or ice is available on request, especially for sensitive areas like the lip flip or hyperhidrosis treatment.

How much Botox do I need?

+

Common Botox ranges include 10–20 units for the forehead, 20–25 for frown lines, 12–24 for crow's feet, 30–50 per side for masseters, and 4–6 for a lip flip. Final dosing depends on muscle strength, area size, and your goals — and is always determined in consultation. Our new client offer of 50 units for $300 comfortably covers a typical full upper-face treatment.

Will Botox or Dysport make me look frozen?

+

When properly dosed and placed by an experienced injector, neither Botox nor Dysport will leave you looking frozen. The "frozen" look comes from overtreatment, poor placement, or a one-size-fits-all approach. PearlMD prioritizes natural-looking results that preserve expression — we'd rather start conservatively and adjust than overcorrect.

Can I switch between Botox and Dysport?

+

Yes. Many clients try both to find the product that gives them the best onset, look, and longevity. Your injector will adjust the dose because units aren't interchangeable. Switching is common, safe, and often part of finding what works best for you.

Is Botox good for forehead lines?

+

Yes — Botox is one of the most popular treatments for horizontal forehead lines. The key is balanced dosing: too much can leave the brow heavy, while the right dose creates a smoother forehead with natural movement. Dysport is also excellent for the forehead and is sometimes preferred because it can spread slightly more broadly.

Is Dysport good for frown lines?

+

Yes — Dysport is one of the most popular options for frown lines (the "11s" between the brows). It can soften the angry or tense-looking expression those lines create. Botox is equally effective for frown lines; both are routinely used here.

Can Botox lift my brows?

+

Yes — strategically placed Botox or Dysport can relax the muscles that pull the brows downward, creating a subtle non-surgical brow lift. This is especially noticeable around the outer brow and is popular for clients who want the eye area to look more open and rested.

Can Botox slim my jaw?

+

Yes. Masseter Botox or Dysport relaxes the powerful chewing muscle, which can soften a strong or square jaw, reduce muscle bulk over weeks to months, and alleviate TMJ-related clenching and grinding. Results develop progressively — most clients see initial smoothing in 2–4 weeks and continued slimming over 2–3 months.

Can Botox help TMJ and teeth grinding?

+

Yes. Botox or Dysport injected into the masseters reduces clenching, grinding (bruxism), jaw tension, and related headaches. It's one of the most evidence-supported uses of neuromodulators for non-cosmetic concerns and can be life-changing for chronic clenchers and grinders.

Can Botox treat excessive sweating?

+

Yes. Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals that activate sweat glands. Underarm hyperhidrosis treatment is one of the most reliable non-surgical options and typically lasts 6–12 months — significantly longer than facial cosmetic effects. Botox is also used for palms, soles, and forehead sweating in select cases.

Can Botox help with chronic migraines?

+

Yes. Botox is FDA-approved for chronic migraine prevention in patients with 15+ headache days per month. The protocol uses ~155 units across the head, neck, and shoulders, repeated every 12 weeks, and can substantially reduce migraine frequency and severity for many patients.

Can Botox help with a gummy smile?

+

Yes. Strategic neuromodulator injections relax the muscles that lift the upper lip, helping the smile look more balanced when excess gum tissue shows. It's a small dose with a big aesthetic payoff.

What is a lip flip?

+

A lip flip uses 4–6 units of Botox or Dysport at the upper lip to relax the muscle that pulls the lip inward. The upper lip then gently rolls outward, creating the appearance of a slightly fuller upper lip without adding volume. It's a great alternative to filler for clients who want subtle enhancement, or a beautiful complement to lip filler.

What is "Baby Botox"?

+

Baby Botox is a lighter, conservative dosing approach using smaller amounts of neuromodulator for subtle softening, prevention, and very natural movement. It's popular with first-time clients, clients in their late 20s/30s pursuing prevention, and anyone who wants a "barely there" result. Both Botox and Dysport can be used in a baby-Botox style.

Is preventative Botox worth it?

+

For many clients, yes. Preventative Botox or Dysport reduces repetitive muscle movement before lines become deeply etched into the skin. It's increasingly popular among clients in their late 20s and 30s — and the right time to start depends on your skin, genetics, expression patterns, and goals.

How much does Botox cost in Toronto?

Is Dysport cheaper than Botox?

+

Dysport's per-unit price is lower, but Dysport is dosed differently — roughly 2.5–3 Dysport units are needed to equal 1 Botox unit. Total treatment cost is typically comparable between the two products when dosing is balanced correctly.

Who should not get Botox or Dysport?

+

Botox and Dysport aren't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in clients with certain neuromuscular disorders (e.g. myasthenia gravis), in those with active skin infection at the injection site, or in anyone with a known allergy to ingredients. We screen carefully at consultation to confirm candidacy.

How soon before an event should I get Botox?

+

Plan to have Botox or Dysport at least 2–3 weeks before a major event so results have fully settled. First-time clients should book 4–6 weeks ahead to allow time for any minor touch-ups. Don't book the day before — results aren't yet visible at that point and mild bruising is possible.

Can I wear makeup after Botox or Dysport?

+

We recommend avoiding makeup on the treated areas for the rest of treatment day to reduce irritation and avoid pressing on injection sites. Most clients can return to normal makeup the next morning.

Can I exercise after Botox or Dysport?

+

Avoid intense exercise, hot yoga, sauna, and steam room for 24 hours after treatment. Light walking is fine. The goal is to avoid dramatically increasing blood flow or sweating in the treated areas while the product settles.

Can Botox be combined with fillers, microneedling, or other treatments?

+

Absolutely. Botox and dermal fillers are a classic pairing — Botox relaxes movement while filler restores volume. Botox can also be sequenced with microneedling, peels, lasers, and skin boosters as part of a comprehensive plan. Timing matters — your injector will sequence treatments correctly.

How do I make Botox last longer?

+

Follow aftercare instructions, maintain a consistent treatment schedule (every 3–4 months), use high-quality skincare, wear daily SPF, stay hydrated, manage stress-related facial tension, and choose an experienced injector who uses appropriate dosing. Some clients find that consistent treatment over time means treated muscles contract less strongly, extending visible smoothness.

Can men get Botox and Dysport?

+

Absolutely — and many do. Men commonly seek Botox and Dysport for frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet, jaw tension, masseter slimming, and hyperhidrosis. Male anatomy generally requires different dosing because muscles are stronger and brow shapes are different. The goal is always to look less tired without changing what makes the face yours.
