Regenerative

The Future is Here

The science of longevity is rapidly unravelling the secrets to living longer better. Extending lifespan and, more meaningfully, healthspan through innovation and regenerative therapies draws us toward the Longevity Escape, a time when the pace of scientific life extending advancements overtakes the rate at which we are aging. Human immortality is considered by experts in the field to be within reach.

Today, we have the tools clinically available to future proof ourselves to maximally benefit from the science of tomorrow. To optimize our health, body, face, skin and vitality to the time of Longevity Escape. This is the goal of our regenerative, integrative and highly personalized approach.

Dr. Jennifer Pearlman is a pioneer in Regenerative Medicine as one of the first Canadian clinicians to introduce genomic functional and aesthetic medicine, DNA driven cosmetic care, autologous stem cell harvesting and therapy and the aesthetic use of exosomes into her practice.

Regenerative therapies are designed based on the relatively new insights that adults maintain the potential to reprogram youth through their own stem cells. Furthermore, Nobel Prize winning research has shown that when a set of growth factors known as the Yamanaka Factors are applied to aging skin cells they are reprogrammed to be young again. Dr. David Sinclair, a well recognized longevity expert, coined the concept of the information theory of aging, suggesting that aging is a software program and that our cells can be rewired to return to youth. As scientists race to harness the power of the Yamanaka factors and the insights of experts like Dr. David Sinclair, Dr. Jennifer Pearlman works diligently to bring the safest and most advanced options to her patients one by one.

Working with the integrative health team at PearlMD Rejuvenation, Dr. Pearlman aims to help each patient achieve their best and successfully navigate aging with the most complete tools, technologies and treatments. Nearly two decades ago, shortly after the human genome was first decoded and Dr. Pearlman established her unique model of practice she coined the concept; “Ageless Vitality”, which serves has the PearlMD Vision Statement. “Ageless Vitality” means, according to Dr. Pearlman, that “at any age and for our ages we can achieve optimal health, wellbeing and performance!” Because vitality implies so much more than merely the absence of disease.

Dr. Jennifer Pearlman has been involved as a Board member with the development of NAD+ precursors to boost cellular energy and mitochondrial vitality. Based on her research, she has developed her own Longevity Rx proprietary formula containing NMN, the NAD+ precursor discovered and developed by Dr. Sinclair. Dr. Pearlman has been named co-Director of the Regenerative Aesthetics Congress with the AMWC North America and The Aesthetic Show and holds Master Classes to train other colleagues on the art, science and innovative potential of Regenerative Medicine

Longevity

&nbsp
The emerging field of longevity aims to extend the years of healthy living by addressing the biological and cellular processes of aging head on. The chronic diseases of aging; cardiovascular disease, cancer and neurodegenerative disease can be considered as manifestations of the core pathological process of aging. For the first time ever, the FDA is evaluating pharmacological therapy to address aging as a disease and the results of the TAME study are expected in the coming years. The TAME (Targeting Aging with Metformin) trial, will serve as the first study to usher in a new era of development of geroprotective therapies aimed at extending longevity.

Healthspan refers to the years of healthy aging. As science rapidly evolves in addressing the underlying causes of aging it is expected that the pace of innovation will outstrip the rate of our aging and a milestone will be met, the human longevity escape velocity.

Hallmarks of Aging

&nbsp
Twelve hallmarks of aging have been identified that serve as both biomarkers and underlying causes of aging. The factors are subdivided in to primary, integrative, and antagonistic based on their mechanisms of action. Genomic, epigenomic and telomere effects are primary but influenced by our lifestyle and life choices. Stem cell depletion, cellular senescence, mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation contribute to accelerating biological aging and risks of disease.

FemSpan

Women are afforded a unique set of biological advantages at birth favouring longevity. Throughout their lifetime however, offsetting these factors are unique risks and susceptibilities that can promote age acceleration. Notable amongst these is the menopause transition, the midlife rapid loss of ovarian hormones, notably estrogen. Women age three-fold faster during the decade that saddles the menopause, or the final menstruation a woman will experience.

The Female Longevity Factor

Dr. Jennifer Pearlman has coined the concept of the Female Longevity Factor to refer to the unique biological traits and lifetime risks conferring women a longevity advantage.

Femspan is a concept to describe the years of healthy aging achieved with a female centric approach. Dr. Pearlman has devoted her career to helping women age well from the inside out. Her comprehensive and integrative approach is focuse on optimizing FemSpan by applyinc a female centric approach with a precise and personalized health plan to address the key factors affecting health, disease risk and aging.

The Longevity Gender Gap

The longevity gender gap describes the long-recognized discrepancy in lifespan in which women on average live seven years longer than men. The added years of life unfortunately do not presently translate into extended healthspan as women too often spend their last decade with disease, disability and dementia. The healthspan shortfall can be partially attributed to gender bias throughout the biomedical system from research to diagnosis to treatment of disease. Too often women are mis- or under-diagnosed, untreated or mis-treated and the unique risk factors that predict disease in women are too often unrecognized. For example, cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in women accounting for more deaths than all other causes of deaths combined. But women are often misdiagnosed when presenting with a heart attack and are too often denied lifesaving cardiac interventions in part due to the lower sensitivity of common diagnostic tests in female parents. Hormonal milestones pose unique risks to women, and experiencing pregnancy related high blood pressure, an early menopause, or severe hot flashes and sweats are all unique risk factors in women predicting future cardiovascular disease.

Aging well is not hardwired

Over 200 longevity genes have been identified to date. Studies of “superagers” reveal a set of longevity genes that may code for extreme longevity refered to as aging beyond the age of 85 years with cognitive and physical vitality. These studies suggest that as much as 20% of our aging is determined by genetics and the rest is influenced by our lifestyle nad lfie choices.

Women have several innate biological advantages conferring longevity. You can read more about the genomic, telomere, mitochondrial and hormonal advantages in this blog post; The Female Longevity Factor.

Regenerative Potential

We are born with over 700 million stem cells but our regenerative potential declines as we age. By the time we turn 40 years of age, the stem cell count has depleted to 25 million and by the age of 60 we are left with only a mere 5 million, less than 1% of our youthful level. Although our regenerative potential declines it does not disappear. The ability to deliver, augment and produce regenerative effects in aging adults is fueling an exciting new field of medicine. A field that aims to target the root causes of aging. The goal is to reprogram youth and restore tissue to a more functional and youthful state.

Stem cell depletion is a hallmark of aging but importantly our regenerative potential is not lost completely. Even with advanced age, we retain the ability to reprogram our cells to be young again. However, therapeutic biostimulation, reprogramming and integrative therapies to support cell renewal are vital.

Regenerative Therapies

The arsenal of regenerative and longevity promoting therapies is rapidly advancing from hormones, peptides to cellular therapies harnessing the regenerative power of stem cells including exosomes the power to reprogram youth is here.

Regenerative Aesthetics

The skin is by far the most regenerative organ with the greatest combined concentration of both mesenchymal stem cells and fibroblasts. These two cell types have the ability to produce collagen, elastin, fibronectin and the constituents of the skin’s extracellular matrix.

Skin derived stem cells and fibroblasts are not only plentiful but easily targeted by interventions applied either topically or with minimally invasive treatments such as microneedling, laser and iontophoresis. The easy access for both treat as well as harvesting of stem cells for future use makes the skin an ideal target for regenerative approaches. Thus, aesthetic medicine is at the leading edge of the regenerative revolution.

The new era of regenerative aesthetics is changing the paradigm of beauty from within. With this evolution, precise biomarkers and predictive AI will guide personalized treatment pathways targeting the hallmarks of facial aging.  A beauty from within approach is key to achieve optimal outcomes with biostimulators like Sculptra® and Radiesse ® and regenerative therapies including PRP, exosomes, peptides and cellular based treatments. The new era of aesthetic medicine will be more personalized and wholistsic than ever before. Read more about the Future of Beauty and Regenerative Aesthetics here.
