Tox Therapy is the cosmetic use of neuromodulators including Botox® and Dysport® to relax facial muscles of expression to rejuvenate and refresh one’s appearance and address any facial asymmetry. Neuromodulators work by blocking the nerve signaling to its target muscle at micro-doses with an effect that is totally reversible within 12 weeks. The most common areas targeted include the frown lines, the forehead lines, the smile lines or crow’s feet, nasal lines, lip lines, and chin dimpling.

TMJ Disorder
In addition to the cosmetic benefits of neurmodulators, Tox therapy can be used to relax the muscles of mastication (masseters) to address clenching, grinding and TMJ joint disorder. The result is a reduction in jaw pain, temple headache, prevention of enamel erosion, loss of dentition or chipped teeth and a slimming of the jawline.
Hyperhydrosis
The sweat glands also respond favorably to neurmodulators and application in the under arms (axillae), palms or brow can lead to a reduction in excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis)
| Treatment with neuromodulators do not work right away. In fact, most often you will leave the clinic looking no different than you did before. The relaxing effect of Tox Therapy takes effect gradually over the hours to days following treatment with the onset appearing most often at the five day mark. We recommend allowing a longer interval of time for the full effect to evolve as each patient’s journey may be unique. We suggest a follow up visit to ensure that your goals are not only met but exceeded and any touch up or additional treatment can be provided. The results will reverse slowly over approximately 12 weeks and with repeat treatment the duration of effect may last longer. Repeated treatments performed every 3 to 4 months allow for a progressive improvement and eventual reversal of expression lines and wrinkles that may have become deeply etched into the skin. At the same time, Tox Therapy is preventative age proofing the skin and appearance as the desired relaxation of muscle activity prevents expression lines from creasing and pigmenting the skin. | ||
Am I a Candidate? | The use of neuromodulators for cosmetic enhancement is considered generally safe and there are very few contraindications to treatment. However, we always ask that you inform us of your medical history and any ongoing medical conditions that you may have (including prior complications), as well as any medications or supplements that you may be taking. A history of undiagnosed neuromuscular disease is a contraindication to treatment.
