What is Botox/Dysport?

Botox is one of the most sought-after treatments for improving the look of wrinkles and fine lines. It works by blocking the release of signals between muscles and nerves, preventing the subconscious movement of muscles, relaxing them, preventing movement in targeted areas and reducing wrinkles.

Dysport relaxes targeted facial muscles in a way similar to Botox. However, it is used to target wrinkles and fine lines with a greater, more intense focus.

Benefits of Botox/Dysport

While Botox is associated with a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, it has other beneficial applications. Not only does it remove wrinkles to give skin a smoother-looking appearance, but it relaxes overactive facial muscles.

Injections are safe and quick with minimal downtime. You’ll notice an improvement in your skin's firmness shortly after receiving either treatment, and full results can be expected roughly two weeks post-treatment.

How does it work?

As mentioned, repeated muscle contractions (squinting/frowning) form dynamic wrinkles. When this product is injected into the muscle, it aids in blocking nerve impulses from reaching the area.

This injection causes the muscle to relax and the overlying skin to become smoother. The result is patients appearing more refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated.

The results can last between three to four months. To continue enjoying the full effects of Botox or Dysport injections, we recommend clients return for scheduled maintenance during this time.

Botox/Dysport: Results and Expectations

Results are quick for both methods. However, results for Dysport may be quicker as they reach the site faster. Both treatments are administered using a fine needle, and sessions last roughly ten minutes. Most people don’t find it uncomfortable and tolerate it well.

At your first consultation, you’ll meet with one of our professional estheticians to discuss your concerns, as well as your medical history, including allergies and current medication, to determine treatment suitability.

Treatments last for three to four months. However, in some patients, they may last longer.

Clients can expect Dr Pearlman and her team of Nurse Injectors to establish a maintenance schedule and outline expectations, since each individual is unique.

Who is a candidate for Botox/Dysport treatment?+

Adults aged 18-65 are candidates for Botox and Dysport treatments. There are multiple reasons for choosing these types of treatments and while many people invest in these injections at the first sign of facial aging, they can be used anytime and for a number of reasons.

Botox Dysport

Botox is exceptional at treating facial lines. However, if wrinkles exist from sagging skin, Botox may be less effective at treating these areas. If this is the case, Dr Pearlman and her team of skin experts can discuss alternate treatment options with you at your consultation.

Dysport

Dysport works well for those who want to avoid invasive medical procedures. Younger patients look to Dysport to treat chronic migraines, cervical dystonia, hyperhidrosis, or TMJ. Older clients use Dysport to treat moderate wrinkles, fine lines, and deep folds.

Additionally, if Botox isn’t working for you or treatments are becoming less effective, you can try Dysport because of its more concentrated dosage.

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Dysport and Botox may sound similar, but a slight difference exists between the two treatments. Dysport’s toxin molecule is smaller in size. It allows for faster muscle absorption and further distribution. One unit is a little more concentrated than a single Botox unit.

Clients find Dysport results to be quicker and longer lasting than Botox injections. It is known as an “event toxin” because of its fast onset, making it the perfect treatment to get before attending a last-minute event.
